We pride ourselves for using the freshest of seasonal ingredients while devoting time and effort into each dish as a home-cooked meal. So when you come in, sit back and enjoy our comfortable cafe environment while we are brewing a cup of our Turkish coffee or preparing our delicious, made-to-order food.

A short history of turkish coffee

A Happy Introduction

In the 16th century, Turkey was first introduced to coffee by way of the Turkish governor of Yemen Ozdemir Pasha, who brought it from Ethiopia as a gift for Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent.

Adoption and Reinvention

Happily for all of us today, the Sultan was impressed and encouraged his staff to innovate the drink's preparation process. The resulting beverage along with the unique Turkish method of preparation quickly became intertwined with Turkish culture.

Artists of the Grind

A new position was soon created called the Kahveci Usta (basically the Ottoman equivalent of a barista). These coffee masters were often employed in royal palaces and in the homes of wealthy individuals solely to make coffee for the household.

A Temporary Setback

Turkish coffee soon spread from the houses of the wealthy into the streets, and where it spread coffee houses soon followed. These houses became a gathering place for the Turkish people, and were banned for a time for fear their presence fomented rebellion.

The Coffee Overcomes

However, Turkish coffee had already become so integrated with Turkish culture that there was no stopping its spread, and the coffee houses were soon reopened to a happy public. Today, Turkish coffee is enjoyed worldwide and continues to inspire and bring together coffee lovers from every corner of the globe wherever it is brewed.
